Blog Tom Alberg Welcomes Inslee’s Order on Autonomous Vehicles

Original Article

Tom Alberg, co-chair of the ACES Northwest Network, offers the following statement in support of Governor Jay Inslee‘s executive order on autonomous vehicles:

“I welcome Governor’s Inslee’s actions, since these will accelerate the introduction of autonomous and shared vehicles to our region, which will do so much to reduce traffic deaths and accidents, improve the environment, reduce congestion and lower the cost of transportation for everyone. As a leading technology region, it is important that we be a leader in the development of these technologies.

Over the last 12 months, we have seen tremendous progress on the technologies supporting autonomous vehicles, and most of the leading automotive and technology companies expect to release fully autonomous vehicles to consumers in the next 3 to 5 years. I am encouraged that many federal, state and local officials are announcing support for the introduction of autonomous vehicles because of their benefits to all.”

Cascadia Center

Founded in 1993, as the Cascadia Project, Discovery Institute’s Cascadia Center for Regional Development is an important force in regional transportation and sustainable development issues. Cascadia is known for its involvement in transportation and development issues in the Cascadia Corridor, Puget Sound and in the U.S.-Canadian cross-border realm. We’ve recently added to that mix through a major program to promote U.S. efforts to reduce reliance on foreign oil, including the earliest possible development and integration of flex-fuel, plug-in, hybrid-electric vehicles.
